Until the advent of materialism and 19th c. dogma, Western Civilisation was superior to anything Islam had developed. Islam has not aided in the development of the modern world; in fact civilisation has only been created in spite of Islam. Proof of this resides in the 'modern' world and the unending political-economic and spiritual poverty of Muslim states and regions. Squatting on richer civilisations is not 'progress'. Islam is pagan, totalitarian, and irrational.

For many Islam is not 'pagan' because it claims to be monotheistic and the Moslem God is the 'same' as the Judeo-Christian God, if not superior. Historically Allah was of course Hub'Allah the male moon deity of Mecca and has nothing in common with the God of the Old and New Testaments. This chapter makes that clear. The moon was a central object of worship in pagan Arabia. Muhammad's own grandfather was a caretaker at the shrine of Hub'Al[lah], the Assyro-Babylonian moon idol venerated by the Meccans as the 'one' or 'Lord' of the 360 idols housed in the Cube. His red carnate statue dominated the entrance to the shrine. It is unsurprising that most Moslems either don't know anything about Hub'Al or deny the import of moon deity and its impact on the development of both Al-Lah and Islam itself.
Islamic paganism is thus rather heathen, meaning it is a cult of customs, uncivilized conduct, and irreligious behaviour. This is a more accurate summation of Islam. The moon idol who had a consort [Allat] and 3 daughters is recast as the only divine manager of earthly affairs. This 'god' is vengeful, full of hate, and supremacist. In Sura 54 we see this pagan-heathenism on display, as we do throughout the entire Koran. Irreligious attributes are granted favour by the Allah idol including the destruction of non-Moslems.
In this Sura of 55 verses, 26 preach hate speech against non-Moslems including Arab pagan civilizations which existed long before Muhammad namely: 'unbelieving' Quraish Meccans; Jews, Christians, Noah, Lot or Lut, and Ramses II. Even before Allah was created to be the 'Lord' of the universe by Muhammad who appropriated the existing 'Lord' of the Kabaa shrine namely Hub'Al[lah] and conflated it into his own version of the Jewish-Christian God; he or it was busy punishing non-Moslems who did not follow the yet to be [un]created Koran. How rational.

And indeed, We have destroyed your likes, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? |
Allah is one angry idol. If you reject the Muhammad, or his book 'Recital' and if you don't prostrate your worthless self to the glory of Muhammad and Allah a bitter torment will be your destiny. You will be 'dragged in the Fire' on your face tasting Hell. Allah has destroyed 'your likes' before, including whole nations who rejected his rule even though they were given 'terrible warnings' and admonitions.
Heathenism's in their pagan dichotomy, usually evince intolerance, unbounded hate and violence against non-members. There is no religious message of the Golden Rule, or faith using reason and through being reasonable. Free-will does not exist in Muhammad's charter. The entire Islamic project is a pagan construct designed to destroy the individual and subsume him into the collective, making him a 'slave' of Allah to quote the Koran.
