Turkey removes head scarf ban.

It all makes so much sense – at least to Muslims. In 1922 President Kemal 'father of the Turks' Atarturk, banned amongst other backwards, anti-civilisational symbols, the Muslim head scarf in public. Now 86 years later, with the Muslim world awash in oil money, foreign aid, economic integration and now a part of any and every international chatter house and coffee club, Turkey's Islamists have started to reassert themselves. Who said history is not cyclical?

Turkey's resurgent Islamism is good news at least for the liberal-marxist European and American jet set crowd. Turkey is viewed by these dreamers as a great and valued 'ally'; a 'moderate' shining example of Islamic modernity; and a forthright example to other Muslim states of what 'moderate' Islam can accomplish in alliance with the 'West'.

All of it is hogwash and bull dung.

Turkey is deeply Sunni. The Turkish history of Muslim intolerance, warring, slaving, Christian, Greek and Armenian genocide has nothing in common with European or modern 'values'. The Turks frenetically tried to conquer Europe many times with Mehmet II finally succumbing to the Polish calvary outside the gates of Vienna in 1683, marking the high water mark of Turkish ambition and European domination. Turkey's pysche was created during the 400 years of Ottoman power, control of the Mediterranean and Asian trade routes and the Islamisation of once Christian, Jew and Greek lands. Turkey is Asian and foreign. It is not and never will be European. The Turks have never been and never will be, friends of Europe.

Turkey's loss of empire after its defeat in 1918 still rankles the Muslim world. The end of the last Caliphate and its mandatory resuscitation still animates extremists ranging from Bin Laden to the Muslim Brotherhood. Turkey was once the center of the Islamic world for 400 years. Such facts of history do not fade quickly into the background because NATO pays the Turks off to be an 'ally', or the marxist faineants in Brussels bribe Turkey with welfare cheques and 'regional development' funds.

Turkey's animus to all things Western runs very very deep. Atarturk's revolution was to modernize a failed Muslim state by immediately and irrevocably breaking all past traditions. In that vein the banning of male and female Muslim dress was an expression of the 'Young Turks' desire to be modern, civilised, rich and free. Now 80 odd years later that revolutionary process is being stopped.

Not unexpectedly President Erdogan's AKP party or Islamist party has now removed the head scarf ban from Turkish law. This was predicted last summer during an excited election in which secularists accused Erdogan and his party of harboring anti-modern Islamist sentiment. They were right. Subjecting women to the head scarf is one small step towards Islamic rigidity and the return to power over mind, body and soul, of Islamic intolerance and ossified and failed, Muslim orthodoxy.

It is ridiculous.

But not to the craven mavens of the Western media. They rejoice. They call the Islamisation of Turkey a brave, 'moderate', and modern step. There is nothing moderate about lifting an 86 year law on head scarves. “Our own view is that lifting the ban is a sign of Turkey's democratic maturity. Mr. Erdogan's Justice and Development Party (AKP), which has Islamic roots, rightly argued that the restriction violated freedom of religion. The vote to amend the constitution and permit head scarves on campus passed by 411 to 103, and included support from the big secular MHP party. The ban on face-covering veils remains.” [Wall Street Journal editorial]

'Rightly argued' that the head scarf ban violates 'religous rights'. Please. What about the religious rights of Greeks and Christians? How about the religious, social, and human rights of Kurds and the 30.000 murdered Kurdish innocents in the past 10 years? Where are these rights august Western media?

Nowhere.

The female head scarf is an abomination. It signifies nothing more than sexual slavery and submission to the man, as well as to the male Muslim moon cult [ie. Islam]. It also perversely gives some women a sense of false grandeur and status, as if wearing a bed sheet wrapped around their head signifies a sort of moral superiority over others. It is nonetheless an anti-social and anti-modern piece of neolithic bondage better confined to an era of ignorance and superstition. In the modern age it should be gotten rid of.

But so it goes with the Muslim Turks. The Turks desire a great say in the affairs of the middle east and central asia. Asserting their 'Muslimness' is an obvious effort at accreting more regional power. This country is no more a Western ally than the Gulf States or Libya. These are the people who allied themselves with Hussein; murder Kurdish innocents; bomb northern Iraq; deny NATO use of their bases; jail and beat 'dissident' authors; invade and murder innocent Greek Cypriots.......

Some ally.

But this is moderate Islam you see. Now Turkish babes can wear the bed sheets and submit themselves moderately to the moderate moon cult and chatter that they are exercising their right to modesty and moderate vitamin D deficiencies. And the world's media will pronounce it all golden and great!
