Until the advent of materialism and 19th c. dogma, Western Civilisation was superior to anything Islam had developed. Islam has not aided in the development of the modern world; in fact civilisation has only been created in spite of Islam. Proof of this resides in the 'modern' world and the unending political-economic and spiritual poverty of Muslim states and regions. Squatting on richer civilisations is not 'progress'. Islam is pagan, totalitarian, and irrational.

5:40 Know you not that to Allah (Alone) belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth! He punishes whom He wills and He forgives whom He wills. And Allah is Able to do all things. |
And not much love for non-Moslems in the second or perhaps the most important set of revelations sent down by the 'one', Hub'Allah to his main man the most important human [until Obama], the illiterate Muhammad. Sura 5 follows the standard Koranic set of themes; 1. Demonize Jews and Christians, 2. Demand that true Moslems fight and even kill them, 3. Obey with no doubt whatsoever Muhammad, and 4. Follow the dictums of Allah as given to Muhammad [which of course means that the inventor of Islam and Allah are one and the same].
5:51 – Jews and Christians are not your friends

O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as Auliya' (friends, protectors, helpers, etc.), they are but Auliya' to one another. And if any amongst you takes them as Auliya', then surely he is one of them. Verily, Allah guides not those people who are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrongdoers and unjust). |
Worse for Moslems is the law of abrogation clearly set out in the Koran itself. Suras 5 and 9 abrogate earlier Suras. There are also perhaps the most violent, Jihadic, discriminatory and intolerant sections of the Koran – and that is saying something.
The law of abrogation is embedded in Koranic law emanating from many places in the Koran. This is because the Koran is man-made and created over a long period of time. Cultures, attitudes and events change and mandate 'updates' to the original 'covenant' between the 'one' and his cult followers. In Sura 16:101 the law of abrogation is clearly defined as one verse being substituted by a better verse. It reveals, "None of our revelations do We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, but We substitute something better or similar- Knowest thou not that Allah hath power over all things?” Sura 2:106 states: "We substitute one revelation for another..." Sura 17:86 reads, "If it were Our Will, We could take away that which We have sent thee by inspiration." The Koran is very clear – abrogation exists and is necessary.
Sura 5 states the following key points and since this Sura is 1 of the 2 most important in the entire Koran one cannot minimize nor deny the import of these verses:
5:10 – Into Hell go the Unbelievers

They who disbelieve and deny our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) are those who will be the dwellers of the Hellfire. |
5:13 – Jews and Christians are cursed
|
So because of their breach of their covenant, We cursed them, and made their hearts grow hard. They change the words from their (right) places and have abandoned a good part of the Message that was sent to them. And you will not cease to discover deceit in them, except a few of them. But forgive them, and overlook (their misdeeds). Verily, Allah loves Al-Muhsinun (gooddoers - see V.2:112). |
5:29 – Christians and Jews are Zalimun

"Verily, I intend to let you draw my sin on yourself as well as yours, then you will be one of the dwellers of the Fire, and that is the recompense of the Zalimun (polytheists and wrongdoers)." |
5:33 – Butcher those who fight Muhammad

The recompense of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and do mischief in the land is only that they shall be killed or crucified or their hands and their feet be cut off on the opposite sides, or be exiled from the land. That is their disgrace in this world, and a great torment is theirs in the Hereafter. |
5:38 – Thieves and Criminals are to be maimed and disfigured

Cut off (from the wrist joint) the (right) hand of the thief, male or female, as a recompense for that which they committed, a punishment by way of example from Allah. And Allah is AllPowerful, AllWise. |
5:45 – Only criminals don't understand Allah....

And We ordained therein for them: "Life for life eye for eye, nose for nose, ear for ear, tooth for tooth, and wounds equal for equal." But if anyone remits the retaliation by way of charity, it shall be for him an expiation. And whosoever does not judge by that which Allah has revealed, such are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrongdoers - of a lesser degree). |
5:49 – Turn from Muhammad and be punished

And so judge (you O Muhammad SAW) between them by what Allah has revealed and follow not their vain desires, but beware of them lest they turn you (O Muhammad SAW) far away from some of that which Allah has sent down to you. And if they turn away, then know that Allah's Will is to punish them for some sins of theirs. And truly, most of men are Fasiqun (rebellious and disobedient to Allah). |
5:65 – Jews and Christians simply need to submit to Muhammad

And if only the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) had believed (in Muhammad SAW) and warded off evil (sin, ascribing partners to Allah) and had become Al-Muttaqun (the pious - see V.2:2) We would indeed have blotted out their sins and admitted them to Gardens of pleasure (in Paradise). |
These are not religious ideals but cult demands. A cult is not a religion. A cult is primarily interested in irrational observance, instituting a communal fascism in which the individual is destroyed and intelligence is replaced with conformity and obedience. Islam's atavistic and primitive neo-lithic cult structure is unworthy as consideration to be a religion. Sura 5 is ample proof of that truism.
