Until the advent of materialism and 19th c. dogma, Western Civilisation was superior to anything Islam had developed. Islam has not aided in the development of the modern world; in fact civilisation has only been created in spite of Islam. Proof of this resides in the 'modern' world and the unending political-economic and spiritual poverty of Muslim states and regions. Squatting on richer civilisations is not 'progress'. Islam is pagan, totalitarian, and irrational.
Culture is King. Moslem culture is Oriental, Arab and directly opposed to Western civilization – a project with 3.000 years of non-Oriental history. This is why there is a 'clash' between the Meccan cult of submission [named Islam] and the West. Cultural opposites do not merge, interact or engage over the long term; in peaceable exchange. Nothing in the historical record regarding Islam can dispute this fact.
Everything is supposedly 'nuanced' and 'very complicated' unless of course you belong to the bien-pensant club which believes that fish-walked; trace chemicals cause weather, the enlightenment was the apogee of science and that Christianity caused the 'fall' of Rome; or that Islam-is-peace. Then the nuances along with the 'factual science' are 'settled'. So the hair-flickers opine.
Huntington's thesis about a clash of Moslem 'civilization' with every other 'civilization' is about as uncontroversial as one could get. 1400 years of incessant Jihad against non-Moslems is rather obvious proof of his central theme. Jihad attacks in the modern era – some 25.000 since 9-11 – confirm the historical veracity that Islam is intolerant and desirous of world domination.

For Moslems as stated in their key liturgical documents the House of War – inhabited by the Infidels – must be destroyed. Period.
The big-brains will point out exceptions. Moslems allied with the French monarchy, itself a decrepit, corrupt and deceitful organization; during the Medieval period. Turks allied with the British and French to fight off the Russians. Various pacts and agreements between Christians and Moslems dating from the time of the Crusades. The odd Moslem helping a Christian or Jew. Political convenience, the very rare charity of a Moslem to a non-Moslem; or the self-interested treaty between a Moslem and non-Moslem state do not negate the modern Jihad designed to wipe out Jewry and Christians in a faith holocaust; nor do they obviate the unfettered violence stretching back to the founder of the Moslem cult and its barbaric document Mein Koran, which luridly calls for the destruction of non-Moslems.
Huntington only stated the obvious. Reality always shocks the Marxist-PC-mainstream media-academic axis of ignorance. They can't believe that anyone would have the gonads and the temerity to look at reality and declaim the obvious. Anger explodes when the fascist PC dictums are declared morally and factually bankrupt. Witness today the sobs of tears for Arab-Moslem 'mothers' whose children used as shields by the fascist Moslem group Hamas are inadvertently killed by Israelis. No tears are wept for the hundreds of dead Israelis wiped out by Moslem rockets over the past 15 years.
