Until the advent of materialism and 19th c. dogma, Western Civilisation was superior to anything Islam had developed. Islam has not aided in the development of the modern world; in fact civilisation has only been created in spite of Islam. Proof of this resides in the 'modern' world and the unending political-economic and spiritual poverty of Muslim states and regions. Squatting on richer civilisations is not 'progress'. Islam is pagan, totalitarian, and irrational.
Sura 11 and its violence is reviewed here. Only 18 verses are hate speech against non-Moslems, though I doubt that any Moslem will either admit that, or call for a reform of the text. Notice the love for Jews and Christians in this rather typical phrase:

Can they (Muslims) who rely on a clear proof (the Qur'an) from their Lord, and whom a witness [Prophet Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel OaCa)] from Him follows it (can they be equal with the disbelievers); and before it, came the Book of Musa (Moses), a guidance and a mercy, they believe therein, but those of the sects (Jews, Christians and all the other non-Muslim nations) that reject it (the Qur'an), the Fire will be their promised meeting-place. So be not in doubt about it (i.e. those who denied Prophet Muhammad SAW and also denied all that which he brought from Allah, surely, they will enter Hell). Verily, it is the truth from your Lord, but most of the mankind believe not. |
How tolerant.
Similarly, Sura 12, reviewed here, only expresses violence and intolerance against the Infidel in a few passages – a rarity for a long Koranic verse. But its theme, that the Jewish patriarch Joseph was actually a Moslem, is bizarre to say the least.

So he [Yusuf (Joseph)] began (the search) in their bags before the bag of his brother. Then he brought it out of his brother's bag. Thus did We plan for Yusuf (Joseph). He could not take his brother by the law of the king (as a slave), except that Allah willed it. (So Allah made the brothers to bind themselves with their way of "punishment, i.e. enslaving of a thief.") We raise to degrees whom We please, but over all those endowed with knowledge is the All-Knowing (Allah). |
Sura 12 is rather direct in its demand that Jews become Moslems, since Joseph and all Jewish historical figures were actually the followers of the Meccan moon deity:
“These verses are implied threats. Most of 'them' namely the Jews and Christians don't believe that Joseph was a Moslem, nor do they want to prostrate themselves to Muhammad's cult [12:105,106]. Allah's torment will be their reward [12:107]. Anyone who follows Muhammad and believes in the oneness and singularity of Allah will be rewarded [12:108].”
There is not much charity for non-Moslems in either Sura. And of course there is the discussion about slaves or being a slave. Islam grew out of a pagan Arabian culture which was steeped in slavery, misogyny and banditry. Slavery is sanctioned by the Koran, and is still a fact of Moslem geo-political life and culture even today.
Women [pagans] desiring sex with their slave-boys:

And women in the city said: "The wife of Al-'Aziz is seeking to seduce her (slave) young man, indeed she loves him violently; verily we see her in plain error." |

And indeed she did desire him and he would have inclined to her desire, had he not seen the evidence of his Lord. Thus it was, that We might turn away from him evil and illegal sexual intercourse. Surely, he was one of Our chosen, guided slaves. |
Slaves taken in either trading or brigandage:

And there came a caravan of travellers; they sent their water-drawer, and he let down his bucket (into the well). He said: "What good news! Here is a boy." So they hid him as merchandise (a slave). And Allah was the All-Knower of what they did. |
Al-Lah loves his slaves. Al-Lah protects his slaves. Al-Lah would like all men and women to be prostrated slaves. The theme of slavery is endemic in the Koran and suffuses almost every page.
There are over 300 direct references in the Koran using the words slaves and slave. Given that the book is 420 or so pages in length, this association of a supposed 'theology' or faith with the concept of slavery is very curious indeed. Few of the phrases advocate freeing slaves. Those that do make it clear that the slave must be Moslem and remain Moslem. The entire edifice of Islam is built on the demand for blind obedience and enforced slavery of its followers:
