Until the advent of materialism and 19th c. dogma, Western Civilisation was superior to anything Islam had developed. Islam has not aided in the development of the modern world; in fact civilisation has only been created in spite of Islam. Proof of this resides in the 'modern' world and the unending political-economic and spiritual poverty of Muslim states and regions. Squatting on richer civilisations is not 'progress'. Islam is pagan, totalitarian, and irrational.
Only 5% of the Koran discusses slaves. Over 500 verses discuss slavery in some aspect out of a total of 6236. This is a remarkable testimony to the pagan origins of the Koran, premised on Arab rituals and social norms, including that of slavery [not to mention, plunder, warring, brigandage and racism]. Slavery was so accepted and endemic in the pre-Muhammadan constellation of Arab social and political development, that it was simply accepted by Muhammad and his moon deity the 'One' or Al-Lah, as an immutable fact of nature.
Sura 16 reflects the Arab impulse to slavery.

He sends down the angels with inspiration of His Command to whom of His slaves He pleases (saying): "Warn mankind that La ilaha illa Ana (none has the right to be worshipped but I), so fear Me (by abstaining from sins and evil deeds). |
The Al-Lah thing [or is it really Muhammad?], loves his 'slaves' and gives them more wealth than others. Surely a good Moslem does not need to hand over his wealth to his slaves that his 'right hand possesses', [women are never mentioned in the Koran as equal to men of course]; and denude the riches granted to him by his idol the 'Lord' of the Kabaa?

And Allah has preferred some of you above others in wealth and properties. Then, those who are preferred will by no means hand over their wealth and properties to those (slaves) whom their right hands possess, so that they may be equal with them in respect thereof. Do they then deny the Favour of Allah? |
A good Moslem is expected to own slaves as the above verse makes clear.
Sura 16 also reflects the intractable, violent hostility that Muhammad's cult has against Infidels. Pagans, Jews and Christians are going to burn in Hell:

And they assign a portion of that which We have provided them unto what they know not (false deities). By Allah, you shall certainly be questioned about (all) that you used to fabricate. |

And if Allah were to seize mankind for their wrong-doing, He would not leave on it (the earth) a single moving (living) creature, but He postpones them for an appointed term and when their term comes, neither can they delay nor can they advance it an hour (or a moment). |

They assign to Allah that which they dislike (for themselves), and their tongues assert the falsehood that the better things will be theirs. No doubt for them is the Fire, and they will be the first to be hastened on into it, and left there neglected. (Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol.10, Page 121) |
In Islam's supremacist liturgy Jews and Christians are allied to Satan. They are corroded and corrupted and must be dealt with harshly. Muhammad and his slaves on the other hand are 'guided' and 'chosen' by the Al-Lah idol to reign, to be given mercy and to be rewarded if they are male, with a pleasurable after-life. The division of the world into two is the hallmark of a supremacist cult, not of a religion. Slavery is the opposite of what a religious theology teaches. Denying free-will and rationality is the doctrine of a bronze age cult, not of a modern or even pre-modern philosophy of enlightened metaphysics.
